SUSTAINABILITY NOW! 2010

Following up on the successes from the first conference in 2007, Emisoft in 2010 arranged the 4th Sustainability Now! Conference.

Today, how to run a business in a sustainable way is worldwide a top priority. Learn more about how to put your focus right and even make it a way to increase your profit.

The conference is a meeting place for decision makers with a responsibility and concern for environmental and sustainability strategies in their organisations. You will meet other people and professionals with an interest for the same issues, representing private companies, the public sector and academics.






A number of speakers shared their experiences within their respective fields of competence. The speakers include:


Erik Solheim, Minister of the Environment and International Development, he shared with us his thoughts on environmental issues in a global perspective.



Bjørn Kj. Haugland is Senior Vice President and the Chief Operating Officer for Division Sustainability & Innovation in DNV ( Det Norske Veritas), and his presentation is entitled: “Managing Risk, Sustainability and Innovation”.

Today, an increasing number of companies are issuing annual sustainability reports. Such reports are usually prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative’s guidelines (GRI) – which is the leading format for sustainability reporting. Ásthildur Rutten-Hjaltadottir from the Global Reporting Initiative Organisation in the Netherlands presented “GRI Sustainability Reporting: An introduction and overview of main benefits”.

Ylva Lindberg is founder and managing director of SIGLA, a boutique consultancy on the role of business in society. Ylva has 15 years business experience, including as a consultant with McKinsey & Company, marketing manager in Orkla, and equity analyst at KLP Asset Management. Her expertise is in strategy, corporate responsibility and marketing. Ylva is a member of the Council on Ethics for the Norwegian Government Pension Fund - Global and board chair of WWF-Norway. ”If you´re not at the table, you´re on the menu” is the title of her presentation.

Wenche Teigland, Corporate Director Energy, started in BKK in 2006. She gavee a presentation on ”Climate challenges - possibilities in renewable energy”; - a most relevant title in the light of the discussions in media recently.

Although the Armed Forces differ significantly from commercial companies, there are also many similarities. Kjetil Sager Longva is working at the Norwegian Defense Research Institute (FFI) and is responsible for the environmental reporting in the Armed Forces. He will share his experiences with us not only in relation to reporting, but also in connection with environmental management and improvement.


We are proud to say that NRK-veteran, Bjørn Hansen, led us through the entire conference. The conference had certainly great benefit of his knowledge and experience.









As last year, the conference was pre-open with a formal dinner on the evening of Monday 25th, October. During this dinner, Emisoft's Sustainability Now-Prize was awarded to Professor Klaus Töpfer.

Professor Klaus Töpfer was in 1998 appointed Executive Director for United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP). He is actively contributed to the success of the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, and he was also closely involved in behind-the-scenes negotiations in support of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change. Today, Professor Töpfer is Executive Director at the institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, IASS, in Potsdam.
